Four District 5470 Clubs come together for a successful District Grant Project in Leon, Nicaragua

A project to equip a computer classroom in the vulnerable semi-rural community of La Estrella, Nicaragua was recently funded, thanks to a collaborative effort between the Rotary Club of Leon, Nicaragua, and the Rotary Clubs of Vail, Edwards, Western Eagle Valley, and  Grand Junction's Horizon Sunrise Rotary Club, in addition to a District Grant provided by District 5470.

The project objective was that each student from the San Ignacio de Loyola school in the La Estrella community of 420 families and one of the most vulnerable semi-rural communities in León (Nicaragua), have a computer room to promote effective learning and allow access to the internet and centralized printing.

The local school and community constructed the classroom, provided the internet and will continue to supply the printing supplies for the shared printer.  The Rotary Club of Leon, Nicaragua orchestrated the project from obtaining local bids for the equipment, having a parent construct the desks and securing the donation of services from a computer firm to install and network the computers.

There was an unforeseen benefit from the computer classroom.  The students were shown the Rotary.org webpage and saw all of the opportunities that available for young adults.  Now there is talk of organizing a Rotaract Club!
